PUBLIC PARTICIPATION PROCESS NOTICE OF WATER USE LICENCE APPLICATION FOR PROPOSED GROUNDWATER ABSTRACTION AT KOPANONG SHOPPING CENTRE, IVORY PARK, THEMBISA, GAUTENG PROVINCE
Notice is hereby given in terms of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No. 36 of 1998) and the Regulations regarding the Procedural Requirements for Water Use Licence Applications (GN R.267 of 24 March 2017) that Emerald Fire Investment (Pty) Ltd intends to apply for a Water Use Licence. The proposed activity entails the abstraction of groundwater from a borehole at Kopanong Shopping Centre to supplement the existing municipal water supply. The groundwater will be used on-site only and will not be sold or distributed. The abstraction is proposed as a supplementary water source to improve water supply reliability and support the ongoing operation of the facility. The site is located at Malatsi Street in Ivory Park, Thembisa, Gauteng Province. The property comprises Erf 18162, Ivory Park Extension 13, Township, within the City of Johannesburg Metropolitan Municipality The application relates to water uses as defined under Section 21 of the National Water Act, 1998, namely: Section 21(a): Taking water from a water resource. Interested and Affected Parties (I&APs) are hereby invited to register and submit written comments on the proposed water use authorisation. The Background Information Document (BID) is available on request. The public participation process will be undertaken over a six (6) week period, from 13 April 2026 to 25 May 2026. All comments must be submitted in writing on or before 25 May 2026. The Background Information Document (BID), together with supporting documentation, is available electronically on request.
