ENVIRONMENTAL AUTHORISATION AND WATER USE LICENCE APPLICATIONS: PROPOSED UPGRADING OF TSWELOPELE PEDESTRIAN BRIDGE, WITHIN THE CITY OF EKURHULENI, GAUTENG PROVINCE Notice is hereby given in terms of 41(2) of the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) Regulations of 2014 published in Government Notice (GNR) (R982) as amended published in terms of Section 24(5) of the National Environmental Management Act, 1998 (Act No. 107 of 1998) as amended and Sections 21 and 40 of the National Water Act, 1998 (Act No. of 1998) for the above-mentioned project. Rambuda Consultants (Pty) Ltd has been appointed, in terms of Regulation 12(1) of the EIA Regulations, by LSO Consulting Engineers (Pty) Ltd (on behalf of the City of Ekurhuleni) as an Independent Environmental Assessment Practitioner to undertake the EA and WUL process for the proposed Project.
Project Description and Location
The proposed scope of work entails construction of a new pedestrian bridge, including additional erosion control measures as outlined below: *Demolition of the existing bridge and associated infrastructure.
•Construction of a new, improved pedestrian bridge with capacity to accommodate the higher flows.
•Completion of the new bridge with erosion protection infrastructure and signage.
`Rehabilitation of the impacted areas.
The proposed site is located over the Kaalspruit within Ward 102 of the City of Ekurhuleni. The proposed site lies on Portion 144 of the Farm Olifantsfontein 410 JQ and can be defined by the following central coordinates: 2558`3.14″S 2812`13.40″E.
EIA Application
The EA application follows a BA process as provided in Regulation 15(2)(a) of GN R 982 (as amended). The following activities listed in Listing Notice 1 (GN R 983) and Listing Notice 3 (GN R 985) (Refer to the table below) apply to the proposed Project. The EA application will be submitted to the Gauteng Department of Environment.

The proposed development will also trigger the following water use in terms of Section 21 of the National Water Act, 1998:
•Section 21 (c)&(i) construction activities within Kaalspruit.
Therefore, a Water Use Licence in terms of Section 40 of the National Water Act, 1998, is required and must be submitted to the Department of Water and Sanitation (DWS): North West Region.
