I am writing to make you aware of the help that my family received recently from some of the female police officers stationed at the Benoni Police Station.
Send your letters to bctletters@caxton.co.za
This was after I sent an email regarding my mother (who is bedridden due to lung fibrosis and has to be on an oxygen machine otherwise she could die) and her being in need of a signed and stamped affidavit confirming her identity document.
I sent through the email enquiring about the possibility of having a police officer come through to our address with an official police stamp to have the said affidavit signed and stamped.
I was not sure that I would receive a response to this unusual request.
Soon after, I was shocked to find four female police officers at my gate, ready and willing to do just that.
Not only were these women courteous and ready to lend a hand, but they went out of their way to make my mother feel cared for.
They went over and above what was expected from them, enquiring about my mother’s health and well-being, laughing and joking with my family members and in general being an asset to the SAPS badge and uniform.
At the same time as sending an email to the Benoni SAPS, I also sent a request on three WhatsApp groups.
Clr Jacques Meiring responded within 10 minutes and offered to come by himself to do it the next morning.
This was unexpected, as you would think that such a busy man would have more important things to do.
To the women of the SAPS (Capt Nomsa Sekele, Const Zunickha Essakjee, Const Zoliswa Kabini and Const Nonhlanhla Vilakazi), I would like to thank you so, so very much for your caring service to our family and our community.
I know that every day you see the worst our community has to offer.
You see the poor results of choices that we as humans sometimes make.
You are also witness to the pain and suffering that comes from these choices, but still you wake up every day and try to make a difference, even though this isn’t always acknowledged.
Know this: your selfless service made a huge difference in our lives and for that I am very thankful.
May you and all those working with you be abundantly blessed and may you never forget that you are indeed making a difference.
