“Grateful Cook” writes:

I recently visited Actonville because their spices are amazing, but I wanted Dhanya and curry leaves which were not at the shop I usually go to.

I was advised to go to the supermarket on Laher Street because I would find what I needed there.

I went to the store and realised that my two items were below R100 and they did not swipe for under R100 – of course I had no cash on me which placed me in a predicament.

My mind was racing between whether I should buy more items that I did not need or do I leave the items or do I leave the shop to withdraw cash.

While asking the gentleman at the counter why they do not swipe for under R100, a woman, who was also standing at the counter took my items, put it in a plastic bag and said ‘go, count it as a gift from God’.

The man at the counter said if the woman said it was okay, then it is okay to take the items without paying for them.

The woman did not want to give me her name, but I just want to say thank you for the kind gesture.

I have not given the name of the store because I do not want others to expect the same treatment, but kind lady, if you are reading this, I am grateful … it may have seemed like a small deed to you, but that kindness goes a long way and will never be forgotten by me.
