Despite the CEO of Rynpark, Marius Botha, stating in the City Times that the recent culling of two Egyptian geese at Rynpark 7 was necessary, my view is that this explanation is utter rubbish.

Culling of geese in Rynpark 7 necessary for residents’ safety
I have lived in Rynpark for many years and we have always had birdlife, which we enjoy, including geese, ducks and hadedas (and we all know what a mess hadeda poop can make).
The explanation that the geese had to be shot because they were aggressive and their droppings posed a fall risk is nonsense.
There is a gardener who cleans the pathways and benches of bird droppings and other items every week, ensuring pathways are always clean and safe.
Personally, I have never experienced the geese being aggressive, even when they have chicks.
In fact, they make off the minute you come too close.
Perhaps the geese ate plants in the garden and this could have annoyed some residents, but as far as being aggressive and a cause for safety concerns, no!
There are already three other geese back at Rynpark – the whole of Benoni is full of geese!
Just let them be.
We enjoy and welcome the birdlife at Rynpark.
