Benoni-based Eagle Tumbling Club had a number of participants in various age-groups and categories.

Wiehan Knoetze competed in the World Age Group Section for 17 and over and won the silver medal with a total score of 28.70 for his twisting pass and 27.90 for his straight pass.

Wiehan has been a member of the club since January 2005 and is also a coach at the club.

He has received his provincial colours for the past six years and was the South African Champion in 2012.

Another Eagle Tumbling participant, Inga van Niekerk, competed in the World Age Group Section for 15-16 years of age and received the silver medal for her routines.

She scored a 24.20 for her straight routine and 24.05 for her twisting routine.

She has been a member of the club since August 2005 and has received her provincial colours for the past six years.

The most inspirational display of the day belonged to Eagle Tumbling’s Xabeiso “Bibi” Selema.

Xabeiso is seven years old and suffers from dwarfism.

According to Cindy McCall-Peat, head coach at Eagle Tumbling, he joined the club in May 2009 and has tried so hard to do the required routine for competitions.

“He mastered it last week so he was entered into the Boksburg Gym and Tumbling competition and won gold,” she said.

“He was so excited about his win that his granny said he never took the medal off his neck for the next two days.

“It just goes to show that no mountain is too high to climb.”
