Podium place for Koll in Mauritius

Benoni’s Caroline Koll recently collected another podium finish in her last race of the 2013 season.

She finished second in the International Indian Ocean Triathlon, in Mauritius.

The race took place at the Emba Filao Beach, at Le Morne, on the southern part of the island.

In the context of paradise, participants competed in a beautiful 1.8km swim, in the clear, warm ocean, followed by a 55km bike course, which included a gruelling climb up the Chamarel Pass and, finally, a 12km run with some challenging beach sections.

With 20 countries represented, including past and present national champions and Olympians, the race attracted a stellar field, including former Tour de France cyclist Laurent Jalabert and former World Triathlon Champion Olivier Marceau.

Koll performed exceptionally well, with a strong comeback on the run leg of the race, to take the silver medal behind former French National champion, Charlotte Morel, and Bettina Haas of Germany.

The men’s race was won by Frederic Belaubre, of France, followed by compatriot Marceau.
