Wet outfield affects Willowmoore warm-up
India’s only practice match on their short tour of South Africa was called off on what was a warm and sunny day at Sahara Park Willowmoore on Friday, November 13.
The second scheduled day on Saturday, November 14, was also cancelled as ground staff indicated that it was not possible to get the ground ready for the second day.
This comes after the weeks of rain that fell on Benoni that had taken its toll on the Willowmoore drainage facilities.
Although the pitch was ready on the first morning there were a few wet patches on the outfield which caused concerns and forced officials to scrap the game.
The Indian team, however, took to the main field instead and were granted special permission to use the match pitch to hold an extended net session to get some sort of practice in before the crucial Test series against South Africa.
