Birds fly home from Smithfield

Benoni Homing Society's birds flew from Smithfield this week.

The Benoni Homing Society basketed their birds on Thursday, July 17, for this week’s race, which took place from Smithfield, about 480km away.

The birds were liberated on Saturday, July 19.

The young birds were freed at 7.30am and the old birds at 8.15am.

The first young bird arrived at 12.19;55pm, at velocity of 1 636.783mpm and the first old bird at 13.05;48pm, at a velocity of 1631.810mpm, making this the fastest race of the season so far.

Jaco Faul won both races, a feat not easily accomplished in the strong Benoni club.

Results of the Smithfield race are:

n Young birds: 1 J Faul 1 636.783mpm, 2 J Field 1 620.665mpm, 3 J Field 1 620.573mpm, 4 JJ Field Jnr 1 620.389mpm, 5 J Faul 1 618.436mpm.

n Old birds: 1 J Faul 1 631.810mpm, 2 J Field 1 631.095mpm, 3 J Faul 1 628.543mpm, 4 I Gullet 1 625.278mpm, 5 J Field 1 617.553mpm.
