Tough race for Benoni Homing Society's birds

The Benoni Homing Society (BHS) basketed their birds on Thursday, September 11, for the third long distance race of the season, from Richmond, about 720kms away.

It was a very tough race, with north-westerly winds and hot weather as factors.

The birds were liberated on Saturday, September 13, at 6.45am.

The first bird home belonged to Gert de Necker and Joe Gomes, and arrived at 4.20.06pm, at a velocity of 1 253.770mpm, 23 seconds ahead of VD Merwes lofts, that clocked in at 4.22.21pm, at a velocity of 1 252.900mpm.
