Sandilands to train aspiring goalkeepers
Professional goalkeeper to train young keepers.
Former Benoni Northerns Football Club goalkeeper, current Mamelodi Sundowns and former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper Wayne Sandilands will host a goalkeeper coaching clinic for all young and aspiring goalkeepers, on Friday, October 10.
The clinic, which will take place at Benoni Northerns, will be facilitated and managed in conjunction with Sheldon Bowes, of Agility Goalkeeper Solutions.
Sandilands, raised in Boksburg, began his amateur career with the Benoni Northerns and Boksburg football clubs, respectively.
He joined the Supersport United Development Academy for two years in 2000 and signed professionally in 2001.
Four years later, Premier Soccer League (PSL) club Silver Stars FC offered him a four-year contract and he captained the squad to a winning performance in the 2006/2007 Telkom Knockout Trophy.
It was then that Mamelodi Sundowns took notice of his goalkeeping skills and signed him up in 2009.
Their investment paid off, with Sandilands achieving the club’s Player of the Season Award during the 2010/2011 season and winning the PSL League title in the 2013/2014 season, while simultaneously being awarded the Premier Soccer League Goalkeeper of the Season title.
The goal-minder achieved national selection in the u-17, u-20 and u-23 squads and, finally, gained selection to the senior national team in 2011, captaining Bafana on three occasions.
Friday’s clinic will take place from 1pm to 4.30pm, for goalkeepers between the ages of six and 18 years.
