Mixed results for summerball teams

Benoni Northerns Indians Ball Club’s summerball teams experienced differing results on Sunday, November 16.

The club’s Major A baseball team hosted a strong Edenvale Giants 1 team and put on a valiant fight in a highly entertaining game.

Although the team lost 9-7, head coach Ashley Scott was impressed with the overall attitude and performance of his players.

The club’s Braves (u-18), however, ran riot in Marks Park when they hammered Mustangs 24-1.

Starting pitcher Jason Tucker blew away the opposition with some accurate pitching, taking the win, going three innings and allowing only one run to be scored.

Together with his superb pitching, Tucker dominated the opposition pitchers by batting five for five with yet another home run hit to centre right, making him the undisputed MVP on the day.

Not to be outdone, Tyler Croft’s bat came to life by driving in a perfectly hit grand slam home run.

A further milestone was reached when closing pitcher Ryan Timmerman recorded his maiden shut out, when he closed the game by striking out five of the last six batters.
