Actonville whip Windies

Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s Premier XI hosted league bottom-dwellers KT Windies (KwaThema), at Lord’s Cricket Grounds, on Sunday, November 30.

KwaThema won the toss and elected to bat on a bowler-friendly wicket.

Actonville’s opening bowling pair of Clayton August (4/14) and Hussain Shakeel Ahmed (3/6) dismantled the top and middle orders, reducing the visitors to 17/7 at one stage.

However, Actonville’s poor run of dropped catches returned to inflict more misery, as Eprahim Nyawo (51 runs) and Musa Mancele (27 runs) partnered up a 75-run stand.

Enter the 15-year-old golden boy of Actonville’s Premier XI set-up, Mekyle Pillay (3/6), who broke the big partnership and restricted the visiting team to 107 all out.

Actonville came in to bat before lunch and lost an early wicket.

Ahmed Mohammed (35) and Praveshen Chetty (34) consolidated the run-chase and guided the hosts to an eight-wicket bonus point win.

Other weekend results for the club: The u-8 team defeat Vosloorus; the u-12 and u-14 teams defeated Benoni Northerns.

The senior Directors’ team drew with United (rain affected), while the Saturday Second League team beat Nigel.

The Saturday Third League and Fourth League sides beat Reiger Park and Etwatwa respectively.
