Local paddlers take on the Klip

The river race season is now back in full swing, with the easier and shorter novice races done and the first real river race enjoyed on Sunday, May 24.

A 22km event, hosted by Florida Lake Canoe Club, from Meyerton to Three Rivers, on the Klip River, was enjoyed by more than 100 paddlers, many of whom are gaining experience on rivers and earning points towards A-Grade status, to be able to compete in their first A-Grade river race, the Fish River Marathon, in October.

Frith Cooper and Donoval Alho, who are from Benoni and members of the Homestead Dam-based Ekurhuleni Kayak Club (ERK), finished the race victoriously in two hours and four minutes, and are now looking forward to their next adventure.
