Teaching young speedsters
The Art of Fast Bowling – a search for raw bowling talent – came to Willowmoore Park on Thursday, August 27, and Friday, August 28.
The testing clinics, an initiative by Nashua and the Unlimited Titans, were open to primary and high school cricketers from around the region.
Two coaching teams and two Titans players were dispatched to the stadium to allow the young participants to demonstrate their cricket skills with a speed gun, which measures the velocity when bowling or throwing a cricket ball.
The training of the younger players focused more on the basics, while the older bowlers enjoyed specialist coaching.
“If you can throw something at a certain speed, you can be taught to bowl at the same speed,” said CEO of the Unlimited Titans, Jacques Faul.
“Fast bowling is a natural born talent and while you can be taught how to bowl straight, you can’t be taught how to bowl fast.”
