Winger is speeding to success
Seventeen-year-old Hoërskool Brandwag matric pupil and first team rugby player, Armin Wessels, is showing huge potential on the rugby field.
The Farrarmere resident’s skill with the oval-shaped ball has been noted after various rugby successes throughout the year.
Firstly, the winger dotted down on 16 occasions for his school in various competitions.
This got him noticed by the Valke Rugby Union who awarded him with provincial colours.
He justified this selection by scoring a further six tries during the u-19 Reitz Week in July.
The youngster then found himself in the u-19 South African Country Districts side where he received his jersey from Springbok hooker Adriaan Strauss at the capping ceremony.
He has now gone one step further as the only Valke player selected for the South African u-19 team who will tour Italy from October 3 to October 12.
Wessels is also a talented sprinter and recently ran a season best 10.63 seconds in the 100m.
Although he is talented on the track, Wessels admits that he takes part in athletics to keep fit and gain speed for rugby.
