Easterns primed for the challenge

After a desperately close defeat against Northerns in Pool A on the last day of the Africa T20 Cup tournament in 2015 at Sahara Park Willowmoore, the team is determined to win their pool this year.

Coach Andre Nel and his team are looking forward to the challenge with some new and talented players added to the squad.

He is hoping that his team will keep the standard of performance as per last year but also improve on that.

Skipper Ernest Kemm (a Benoni Northerns Cricket Club player) recently returned from England and is excited to captain the team which is a combination of experienced as well as some young talented players.

Easterns will compete in Pool C against Border, Free State and Zimbabwe and will play all their group matches at Buffalo Park Cricket Ground in East London from tomorrow (Friday, September 9) to Sunday, September 11.

The board of directors (in conjunction with the management and staff) of the Eastern Cricket Union congratulated Cricket South Africa for affording its affiliates the opportunity to participate in the Africa T20 Cup.

The Easterns semi-professional team has once again renewed their partnership with ANN7 as their team sponsor for the Africa T20 Cup.

The Easterns ANN7 squad: Ernest Kemm (captain), Sizwe Masondo, Junior Dala, Tabraiz Shamsi, Clayton August, Grant Mokoena, Malusi Saboto, Wesley Coulentianos, Wesley Marshall, Matthew Arnold, Justin Gamble, Xolani Mahlaba, Tumelo Simelani. Management: Andre Nel (head coach), Ephraim Nyawo (assistant coach), Devon van Onselen (manager/ fitness trainer).
