Boating season gets going with traditional salute

About 40 boats participated in the opening ceremony of the boating season, at the East Rand Speedboat Club (ERSC), at Rynfield Dam, on Sunday, October 2.

During the fun day prizes were handed out to the best dressed or funniest clown on the water, and to the best decorated boat.

“The whole point of this ceremony is to open the waters for the boating season,” said Carl Krause, commodore of the club.

A canon was fired into the air and the traditional flag raising ceremony was held.

Members of the club took part in a sail past, with the commodore and his committee taking the salute.

“We are looking for more members to join the club,” said Krause.

Members, VIP guests and families enjoyed a day of clear blue skies and calm waters, while pilots challenged one another and created big splashes in the water with their craft.
