Kwa-Thema gets one over Actonville Spurs at Lord’s
Actonville Spurs Cricket Club’s (ASCC) Premier XI slumped to their third loss of the 2015/2016 Eastern Premier League season on Sunday, November 20.
This time coach Thomas Pekane’s team suffered a three-wicket defeat – at their Lord’s Cricket Ground home ground in Actonville – to an impressive Kwa-Thema XI. ASCC skipper Kyle Degambur won the toss and decided that his team would bat first.
His decision proved to be a poor one, as the hosts found themselves in a world of trouble at 68/5, despite a knock of 63 runs from Ridwaan Daya.
Some decent batting from the Actonville bottom order, helped lift the team to a score of 177 all-out.
The home team’s bowlers came out firing after the lunch break and had Kwa-Thema two wickets down, with not many runs on the scoreboard.
Ernest Mbabane (58 runs) and Peter Vonya (28 runs) established an excellent partnership, that guided the visitors closer to the target.
Sizwe Madonda also chipped in and steered the team home with 37 not out.
Clayton August (2/24) and Wilber van Dyk (2/23) were the best performers with the ball for Actonville.
The ASCC team will aim to get back to winning ways, when they host a high-flying Tembisa outfit at Lord’s on Saturday, November 27.
