BNCC beat Boksburg to wrap up 2016
Benoni Northerns Cricket Club’s (BNCC) Premier XI maintained their Eastern Premier League pressure on league-leading rivals Kempton Park, with a 189-run bonus point victory away to Boksburg at PG Park on Sunday, December 4.
Skipper Kurt Francis and his team have enjoyed a solid vein of winning form in the league recently and ensured they would go into the festive break with another victory to their name.
Despite a shaky start with the bat, Francis (42 runs from 65 deliveries) and Mark Robey (32 runs off 37 deliveries), helped steady the ship.
It was however, the undoubted talents of teenager Aron Visser that boosted the team to 258/8 in their 50-over batting innings.
Still at St Benedicts College, he made his Premier XI debut versus Duduza last week – and hit 60 not out from 34 balls this week.

He again showed incredibly quick running between the wickets.
At one stage, he and his skipper ran a rare four runs off one ball.
Lance Humphrey’s 25 runs from 14 balls also contributed to the total and proved again to coach Nicoloas Moragemos, that the fast opening bowler has plenty to offer with the willow.
With the ball, Humphrey was a master class for BNCC, as his team wrapped up their hosts for 69 runs after 31 overs.
He picked up excellent bowling figures of 6/16 in nine overs, that included six maidens.
Left-arm spinner Ernest Kemm was also economical, with figures of 2/13 in 8.4 overs; while fellow left-arm slow bowler Regardt Verster claimed 1/8 in four overs.

The win is BNCC’s sixth straight success in the league.
“It was the perfect way to end off the year,” said Francis.
“The boys showed great character and fight to pull us out of a small hole; and the bowlers were simply superb.
“We have fought back nicely on the log, but there is still a long way to go.”
The Northerns Premier side return to the field on Sunday, January 15 when they face Kwa-Thema at the Prince Thethe Oval, in their final first-half fixture of the 2016/2017 Eastern Premier League.
• Meanwhile, captain Twayne Stewart’s BNCC Promotion XI enjoyed a six-wicket win over Bedfordview, at Northern Areas on Sunday.
His side chased down a target of 145 in 24.4 overs.
Shawn Wessels (3/22 in 10 overs) and Joshua Thomas (2/27 in 10 overs) were the pick of the BNCC bowlers, while Matthew “Traddle” Wright smashed 82 not out, to lead the side to victory.
The club’s Saturday First League side enjoyed a 20-win over Kempton Park ‘A’ on Saturday, December 3 to stay top of the tabl.
Twayne Stewart was the star with the bat, with a top score of 88 runs for BNCC while Tristan Martindale (3/23 in six overs), Brett Martindale (2/25 in five overs) and Logan Joubert (2/39 in 6.4 overs) performed well with the leather.
