All set for Saturday’s Benoni football derby
The first Benoni Football Derby for 2017, played between old foes Benoni Northerns and Old Bens football clubs, will take place at Northern Areas this Saturday (May 27).
The most renowned football rivalry on the East Rand always attracts high spectator attendance and Saturday is expected to be no different.
Coach Jannie van den Berg’s Benoni Northerns’ first XI are undefeated in five matches in the Eastern Local Football Association (ELFA) Super League (their most recent result a 3-3 draw versus Luso Africa on Saturday, May 20); while Old Bens’ first side dusted off the rust, after a two-week break in the league, with a 1-0 home victory over Olympia at Currrin Park on Saturday.
The clubs’ reserve teams will open proceedings at 1.45pm, followed by the first XI derby at 3.30pm.
