Jet ski riders rule at Rynfield Dam

Engines roared at the local dam.

The first round of the South African Jet Sport Boating Association (SAJSBS) National Jet Ski Racing series for 2019 took place at the East Rand Speedboat Club on March 23.

The new season kicked-off with 30 riders travelling from all over South Africa and even Namibia to compete in Benoni’s Rynfield Dam.

Fourteen different classes ran on Saturday including veterans, junior ski, sport and runabout, novice and pro ski, to name a few.

Local Benoni rider and three-time world champion, Jared Moore, competed in three of the 14 classes and claimed first position in the veterans, pro runabout stock and pro runabout open classes.

Another local rider from Benoni, Cindy Lawrence Kearns, competed in two classes on Saturday.

She managed to claim fourth position overall in the Booster Cup class and third position overall in the sport lites class.

The second round of the 2019 nationals will take place at the Port Elizabeth Splash Festival over the Easter weekend.
