Raising funds for karate dream is going well

The evening raised just over R2 000, bringing the total raised so far to R9 400.

Melanie Timm is on a mission to raise money for her son’s dream of attending a karate championship in New York on July 2 and 3.

Part of her fund-raising efforts involves a weight-loss challenge with which she is getting sponsorship for every kilogram she loses. The determined mom has already lost 3.4kg since the beginning of February.

A sponsor, who wants to remain anonymous, has pledged to donate R500 per kilogram Melanie loses, which, she said, is very exciting news for the family’s fund-raising drive.

They also recently hosted a fund-raiser at Fahrenheit in Benoni, where if you chose to sit in their designated area and requested a sticker on your bill before making payment, 20 per cent of the proceeds from the bill was donated to Melanie’s cause.

This money has already enabled them to pay a deposit to officially secure Connor’s spot on the trip to New York.

The Timms, however, need to raise a further R90 500 to achieve Connor’s dream and, therefore, need all the help they can get.

The next fund-raiser will be held at the ice rink at Festival Mall in Kempton Park on March 7 from 5.30pm to 7pm and is themed a Night on the Ice.

Tickets are R60 and include skate hire.

R30 per ticket will go towards Connor’s dream of travelling to New York to compete.

To secure the cost of R60 per person, tickets need to be booked and paid for in advance.

Tickets will be R100 at the door.
