Hard work showing results in Benoni

If you work hard, never give up, and always follow your dreams, you can do anything.

Durbanites and cousins Kyle Chetty and Theshen Chinasamy relocated with their families to Johannesburg when they were just toddlers.
Benoni resident Chetty (24) attended Tom Newby Primary, Summerfields Primary, and matriculated at Wordsworth High School. Boksburg resident Theshen Chinasamy (25), who coaches in Benoni, attended Eastleigh Primary School from Grade R until Grade Three and then completed his primary years at Summerfields Primary School. He then attended Wordsworth High School where he matriculated.

Chetty and Chinasamy spent a lot of time together sharing their football dreams.

“Sport is my life. My most memorable moment in school would have to be my group of friends, one memory in particular would have to be waiting for our transport after school, whilst playing football and having a good laugh,” explained Chetty.

“I love sports. I do miss the school days. I’m sure Kyle can relate on that as well. My most memorable moment in school was when I became “Cricketer Of The Year”, it was great because I played both football (soccer) and cricket and I got chosen for that award,” explained Chinasamy.

Once Chetty left high school, he studied at University of Pretoria. He now has his own business as well as being a proud manager of three football franchises and being a football coach.

“Out of school I was awarded my first football franchise, and I will never forget that moment, it is a very cherished memory,” explained Chetty.

“I completed a coaching science course that helped me further my knowledge on coaching as a whole,” explained Chinasamy. I am currently working as a sports coach in Benoni, where I’m able to coach children on the fundamentals of sports. It has always been a dream of mine to be a sports coach and to see that dream come true is absolutely amazing.”

Chetty’s greatest achievement to date was when he was nominated as one of the Elite coaches that will be competing in The London Cup in 2021.

“I can confidently say because of my passion for sport, I am where I am today,” said Chetty.

“In life, my greatest achievement isn’t materialistic, it would have to be making a positive impact and difference in people’s lives, whether it be on a personal level or even on the sports field,” said Chinasamy.

When asked how they managed to stay driven, hard working, inspired and never gave up on following their dreams, they said,

“None of this would be possible without my family at work and home, my girlfriend, the learners I have taught and still teaching, learners parents, the schools I attended and coached at and Benoni Northerns for allowing me to use their grounds and facilities to train and coach,” said Chetty.

Chinasamy explains, “My biggest inspiration and what motivated me the most is the late Kobe Bryant, his drive and passion and his determination in basketball, that’s what inspired me to be the coach that I am today. I would admit I’ve gotten to where I am today, because of prayer mainly and by never giving up and always being determined and motivated to achieve and succeed. I always believe that no hurdle or speed bump is too high or difficult to get over, because all it really takes is one step at a time. I strive to be the difference, but in order to do that I need to make a difference. I do such by leading by example on a field as a coach and off the field as well. The best achievement and the biggest motivation I ever received was to be a better me every single day and to guide others to do the same.

“To young learners coming out high school, the best decision you’ll ever make is to follow your passion,” said Chetty.
