*According to the staff at St Dunstan’s, when it came time for Madge to retire from the school, many were the anxious faces of young boys and girls who were always put at ease by her smile and gentle tone. After leaving the college Attwell took up a post as secretary at BNAC. She joined the running club in 1980 when the club was first formed. She remained an integral part of the club until her death.According to Coaker, she will always remain the club’s Benonian, or as she was known to everyone at the club, “Mom”.
“My mom will be remembered for her love of butterflies, gardening and her kind and nurturing soul,” Coaker said.
“She always had a kind word and plenty of time for everyone. She was very generous to all she met. “Being a strong willed and a determined person, she always looked on the positive side of life. “My mom loved her grandchildren endlessly and her children were her world. She was always known for saying things like ‘I love you to the moon and back’ and ‘I love you madly’.”We are all going to miss her so much. She had such an appealing sense of humour and meant so much to so many people.
