First game on their new field a success
Many were thanked on their day for helping Old Bens reach this milestone and they hope to keep the same company as the years go on.
Old Benonians cricket team recently played their first friendly game against Laerskool Rynfield on their newly implemented field. According to Shaun Kruger, cricket chairperson, the day was a resounding success.

“We were extremely happy with the performance of both teams. The new pitch was great and well prepared. “The outfield had some wet patches caused by the rain on Friday evening but we managed to play the full game. This was a huge step forward for Old Bens Cricket,” he explained.
The winners of the friendly were Laerskool Rynfield who batted first, scoring 282/5 and Old Bens replied with 145 all out. “There was great spirit seen on the day, amongst the boys, and we couldn’t be happier of this outcome,” he said. “Spectators consisted of the player’s parents and invited guests and an online Covid-19 questionnaire was completed by all players and parents as well as social distancing was maintained,” he said. Des Gamble and his team for the construction of the new field. “Sascha Caixeiro from BELL and The Cricket Shop Boksburg for the great prizes sponsored. “Riaan Booyse, Michael Ferreira and their Laerskool Rynfield 1st XI for being a part of the day,” he concluded.

The following prizes were awarded: • Keegan John Caixeiro: Batting award 41 runs • Zieg Roos: Top score 48 not out • Sheldon Kruger: All-rounder bowling 1/7, two stumping’s and 37 not out • Ethan Wepener: Best bowler 2/17 • Ruben Rudolph: Master blaster, 37 runs from 17 balls • Robert Birch: Boerewors Award (two dropped catches) • Hanrė van Deventer: Two maidens bowled The coaches felt that the players on each team deserved a mention as they worked really hard and had a successful day that they should be proud of.
