Local club has a new track and sporting activities

Northerns Junior Athletics Club is ecstatic to announce the new changes and add-ons to its club.

The Benoni Northerns Junior Athletics Club has been around for many years.

This year many new and exciting changes are being brought to the club.

“We have always focused on middle-distance running,” said Sonja Ferreira, head coach.

“As of this year, I have been focusing on developing the junior club through preparation and sourcing of additional coaching staff and resources to expand the events we participate in.”

Towards the end of this year, the club will be offering various sporting activities, such as high jump, hurdles and sprinting, along with their middle-distance running.

“The new season for sprinting, hurdles and middle-distance events start towards September, October,” she said.
Northerns athletics will also be marking and operating a full, six-lane, 400m athletics track for the new athletics season.

“This will be the first time Benoni Northerns has a complete track marked out,” said Ferreira.

“Currently, most of the athletes’ meetings are done in other suburbs where tracks are available so we are very excited to finally have our own.”

The club is in the middle of the cross-country season, with its athletes competing in multiple events. But the start to the new season and when these times will come into effect will be in September, Monday to Thursday from 14:00 to 17:00.
