Last-chance qualifiers for Van Zyl and Cook
“Cook, losing in the second round of the elimination section, fought back through five matches and found himself in the finals against van Zyl, who had not lost a match through the elimination rounds.”
The Gridpro SA grid number eight took place recently at its usual spot, the Grasslands Driving Range in Benoni, featuring the top two Pro Long Drive hitters of the day, Thorne van Zyl and Jason Lee Cook.
After recovering from Covid, they participated in the last-chance qualifiers.
“These two hitters showed their mettle on the day,” said Stephen van Zyl, Grid Pro owner.
“Cook, losing in the second round of the elimination section, fought back through five matches and found himself in the finals against van Zyl, who had not lost a match through the elimination rounds.”
Both found themselves in a two-set final, where Cook had to beat van Zyl twice in order to take the overall win.
“They fought it out and Cook took the victory in the first set,” he said.
“They then switched boxes and had eight balls to go, in which we would then see who the winner of Grid number eight would be.”
Van Zyl hit a 390.8m drive and Cook, being unlucky with a few balls, finished with a 348.5m drive.
“These two have both won and qualified to go through to the PLDA and XLD finals in September,” he said.
Cook took home the win for the XLD Seniors Division Order of Merit and van Zyl won the PLDA and XLD Order of Merit.
