Fortuin takes SA Bantamweight title
Fortuin out-boxed her opponent after going 10 rounds.
Benoni resident and boxer Sharadene Fortuin (27) recently claimed a win at Booysens Gym against Melissa Miller to win the South African Bantamweight title.
All her training takes place at VIP Boxing Academy in Bedford Avenue, Benoni.
“I feel super excited winning this title,” she said.
“It has been a long time since I last fought, which was 2018, so it feels really good to be back in the ring. I felt like I made a great comeback.”
Fortuin out-boxed her opponent after going 10 rounds.
“I started noticing that I was out-boxing her in the first round already,” she said.
“I am really proud of my fitness as that is how I was able to out-box her. I need to work on my strength because I need to have more power, but, all in all, I am happy with how everything turned out.”
This VIP Boxing Academy athlete relocated to Benoni in 2019, but her boxing career began when she was 10 years old.

“I think it has always been in my blood. My father was also a boxer, even my cousins were boxers. I used to follow my cousins when they would go to the gym; that’s when my boxing life started.
“I just fell in love with the sport at a very young age and haven’t stopped loving it.”
This go-getter thanked her family, fans, coach Harry Ramagoadi and her sponsors, Mr Darlow from Autowash, Ronelle from Battalion and Pepzin Caboose for always being there for her.
“My advice to the young people out there is don’t sleep on your dreams, it may take long but be patient. Everything has it’s time. Just remember to never ever give up.”
There isn’t anything in the pipeline yet for this up-and-coming boxing star, but she will continue her training at VIP in preparation for when something does come along.
“I don’t know who am I going to fight next, but I’m ready for anyone,” she concluded.
