A cricket derby shows great results

Local teams of Reserves and Premiers took each other on recently in a 'derby' like format.

On November 21, the premier and reserve sides of Actonville Cricket Club and Old Benonians Cricket Club took each other on at the Old Bens home ground and Actonville home ground.

Actonville scored 213 in their allocated overs.

Captain Ahmed Mohammed scored 52 with Neil Joubert anchoring the innings to make 74.

After lunch, Old Bens began the chase and throughout the innings, regular wickets fell.

In the end, Justin Brinks of Old Bens scoring 89 was not enough as two wickets in two balls by Abid Turkey of

Actonville changed the complexion of the outcome.

Actonville won by four runs.

Reserve League

The two respective clubs also played each other in the reserve league with Actonville winning that contest as well, by five wickets.

Chasing 107 for victory Shuaib Essakjee of Actonville put in an all-around performance to take three for 16 and achieved a top score with 23 runs.
