Local claims second place at recent Sunshine Tour
This avid golfer won a whopping R138 000 for coming second.
Rynfield resident Pieter Moolman (30) recently competed in the PGA Championship Sunshine Tour from November 4 to November 7, coming second overall.
“We played at St Francis Links in PE,” he explained.
“The course was amazing and it is definitely one of my favourites. I played really well and I’m looking forward to the future as my game is definitely trending in the right direction. Overall, I had a really great week. I’m very happy with my performance.”
This professional golfer began his career as an amateur when he was 13 years old.
“My dad got me into golf because when he used to go play I would go with him. I enjoy the sport so much but mostly the thrill of trying to be perfect in an imperfect game. I also enjoy competing as much as I can to be the best I can be.”
Moolman has been a member of the Benoni Lake Club since he took on the sport when he was only 13, but since then, the achievements he has racked up proved to himself that not only is golf his favourite hobby but his occupation.
To name a few:
• Winning the SA boys u-19 tournament in 2009
• Travelling to Scotland to represent South Africa in the Duke of York tournament
• Receiving his Sunshine Tour card
“I am very proud of these moments as they were big achievements to me. Most of these achievements don’t happen to just anyone, but golf has taught me a lot about life and that is the biggest achievement I think. Golf has helped me to become a better person and taught me how to deal with certain situations.”
This avid golfer won a whopping R138 000 for coming second.
“I would like to thank Titleist and FootJoy for always making us look and feel good on the course and obviously giving us the best chance to compete with fantastic equipment. Then to my friends and family who keep pushing me to be better than I am and strive for greatness, and last but not least to my parents, who gave me a chance to chase my dream, without them I wouldn’t be where I am today.”
Moolman is still looking for sponsorships, so if anyone or any business would like to sponsor him he has requested that you contact him via social media.
“For any young golfers out there looking at professional golf from the outside, all I can say is practise hard and enjoy every single game you play. We all hit bad shots, but remember, the next shot is more important than the bad one you just hit. Don’t give up,” he concluded.
