Matfield helps racer realise dream
Cocker wants to race in international off-road events such as the Dakar Rally.
Former Springboks and Bulls lock Victor Matfield led hordes of golfers at the DC87 golf day at the Benoni Country Club to raise funds for motor-cross and cross-country rider Davin Cocker on February 10.
The funds raised will help Cocker to realise his dream of racing in international off-road racing events such as the Dakar Rally.
Cocker was crowned the national OR3 champion last year after leading his team, Husqvarna South Africa, to an epic win on the last event of the National Cross Championship at the Virginia Trails in KwaZulu-Natal.
He also won the GXCC OR3 200cc regional championship last year. Cocker’s love for racing began when he was three years old. He has raced all over Southern Africa and now wants to race at the highest level.
“I started racing when I was three years old in Zambia. I have been racing ever since. In 2021, I joined Husqvarna South Africa. I hope to race overseas one day,” he told the City Times.
The event was organised by Cocker’s mentor, Kyle Enslin. He said this was the beginning of their journey to help Cocker race internationally.
“Thank you very much to everyone who supported Davin today. We appreciate it. Thanks to Victor for coming to support us. The start of our journey to racing abroad has begun,” said Enslin.
