NWS karate students dominate at provincials
They won gold medals in both kumite and kata.
New World Shotokan (NWS) Karate Crystal Park dojo’s Gontse Mathoba and Reamohetse Langa raised the province’s flag after they dominated their divisions at the Interprovincial Development Championships at the Wynburg Military Base in Cape Town on April 16.
The duo was representing the Gauteng Karate Federation (GKF).
Gontse competed in the junior male division and won gold medals in both kumite and kata. Reamohetse proved her mettle as she dominated in the seven- to nine-year-old girls’ division to land gold medals in both disciplines.
Gontse recently graded to fifth (blue belt) while Reamohetse graded to eighth kyu (yellow belt). They are trained by sixth dan sensei Louis Ramakulusha, who is ranked number one in both kumite and kata in his division.
Sensei Ramukulusha, who is also Karate South Africa (KSA)’s development coach, told the paper he was proud of his students’ achievements.
“These students have worked very hard for their development. They take one-on-one classes with me and sometimes train for up to four classes in a week during the school holidays.

“Their dedication to their passion has paid well, as they have also done well in the provincial qualifying trials earlier in February.”
In the qualifiers in February, Gontse won the silver medals in kata and kumite in his division, while Reamohetse won a gold medal in kata and a silver in kumite.
Ramukulusha said they are now preparing for the nationals that will take place in Durban in September.
“Our next challenge is to prepare them for the KSA’s National Development Championship in September.
“I hope their success will also encourage other local children and those in the nearby township to join the Crystal Park Dojo Tigers ‘the school of champions’.”
Ramukulusha has urged those interested in joining the dojo to contact him on 076 338 1014 or at louisholobi@gmail.com
Classes are on Mondays and Wednesdays from 17:00 to 17:45 for the foundation phase class and 17:45 to 18:45 for the intermediate class. The seniors and advanced classes start at 18:45 until 20:00.
