United is raring to go in second half of Super League season

“Expect more entertaining football, and discipline as the season continues.”

Musa United owner Musa Dladla believes they can turn their season around in the second half of the Easterns Super League.

Dladla’s team’s performance in the first part of the season left many with lots of questions than answers. They are second from the bottom on the log with two wins, two draws and eight losses from 12 matches.

United last won a match on March 19 in a 3-2 victory against Sporting at Boksburg Stadium. Dladla’s men have scored 16 goals while conceding 35.

The second half is set to go underway in under a week and Dladla is adamant they will turn things around and finish the season in a respectable position.

“Our first-half performance was good in the first four games. After that, we struggled with injuries where we lost five key players. Our performance overall was below par,” he said.

He also lamented inconsistency and squad depth as the main reason they find themselves in the ‘basement’ of the league along with Brakpan Spurs.

“Consistency is key. We have a limited number of players we can sign on for the season. If they don’t deliver, we have to reinforce so that we have depth in the squad.

“We are all aware of the country’s problems with prolific strikers who can fetch you more than 20 goals a season. This is something we also struggle with at a grassroots level. In my team we play good football, we only need three to four natural strikers.”

Dladla revealed that all his players are now back in training and ready to go.

United held Benoni Northerns to a five-all draw last week. Dladla emphasised that they will look to keep the momentum when they take on Old Bens at Currin Park on June 25.

“Our injured players are back and we have our depth. My players and coaches are now more determined. We scored many goals in our last game and our momentum is high.

Scoring goals while also conceding serves no purpose. What is it that United have to do differently in the second half?

“It is my duty, as the owner, to keep the boys’ spirit high for every game so that we can get good results as we go into the second half of the season. We are positively looking forward to starting winning games.”

Dladla has described lack of finances as their main hurdle. He stated that they urgently need training equipment and transport to and from games.

“It is the small things that motivate amateur players. If we can get someone to partner with me so that together we can take the team to a different will be much appreciated.

“Expect more entertaining football, and discipline as the season continues.”
