Capelli Sport steps in to help footballers

The company donated clothing items such as tracksuits, jackets, T-shirts, socks and sneakers. Also included were backpacks, sport bags, caps and water bottles.

Footballers Ntokozo Mahlangu and Siyanda Dlepu heaved a sigh of relief on July 1 as sportswear brand, Capelli Sport shed some weight off their shoulders by donating several items they need to travel to Sweden to take part in the Gothia Cup.

The company donated clothing items such as tracksuits, jackets, T-shirts, socks and sneakers. Also included were backpacks, sports bags, caps and water bottles.

This comes after the City Times published two articles about the youngsters’ appeal for assistance to partake in the tournament in the Scandinavian country.

“It’s a big privilege to go and represent your country, team and yourselves overseas. I saw the story and I know how difficult it is to raise finances and get stuff to go. Capelli is a new brand in South Africa so we’d love you to wear this stuff as much as you want.

“Represent us but mainly represent South Africa and yourselves as footballers. Grab this opportunity with both hands. There are scouts there, go do South Africa proud.

“From Capelli, this happened so quickly and I know you are leaving soon so we gave you as much stuff as we could to make it a little bit easier on your pockets. We are behind you as a brand and we want to hear about your success when you come back,” Lee said.

The footballers couldn’t contain their excitement as Lee showed them the items, with the 17-year-old Mahlangu clearly shaken by Capelli’s generosity.

“I want to thank the people who have always been behind me. In particular, I want to thank Mr Michael Lee from Capelli for his kindness. We will make him proud by representing the brand and our country with pride,” the Wordsworth High learner said.

“Capelli has definitely shed some weight off my shoulders but I still have to raise money for flight tickets,” Mahlangu added.

Dlepu, who plays central defence for his team, thanked the sportswear company for making a difference in his life.

“I want to thank bra Mike. It shows there still are good Samaritans out there. Capelli’s support will lift our spirit going into this journey. From the bottom of my heart, thank you Capelli Sport,” said the Unity Secondary School learner.

The Gothia Cup takes place in the city of Gothenburg from July 11 to 24.
