WATCH: Karatekas take to the great outdoors for intensive training session
Kitted out in their gi suits, students of Benoni JKA trained on the banks of the Homestead Dam.
Karatekas from Benoni JKA worked up a sweat in their annual Spring Gasshuku (endurance training) on September 9.
Making their way around the training circuit, set out by chief instructor sensei Mike Forner, students of the art got their hearts racing while fine-tuning their skills.
Ranging from white to black belts, the members endured the heat, showcasing their fighting spirit as parents and supporters of the club looked on.
“The Spring Gasshuku has become part of the club’s tradition and is a calendar event everyone looks forward to,” said Forner.

“It allows us to get out of the club, mix up our rigorous training regime and enjoy the warmer weather.”
While maintaining their form and racing against the clock, students said they are proud to be part of the club and that the sport has taught them discipline and tenacity.
Having recently graded to a black belt, Seth Dickson said that the club and all its members have become his family.
“I have been doing karate from the age of five. This is not a hobby, it is my life and I love every aspect of the art,” he said.
