Saints march to historic three-peat in style at St Dunstan’s

They won six out of six and scored 35 goals while conceding none.

St Dominic’s Catholic School for Girls underlined their dominance with a ruthless, record-breaking run to a third successive St Dunstan’s College Easter Sports Festival title and they did it without conceding a single goal.

Head coach Seth Goodwin could barely contain his pride as his young Saints outfit swept aside all challengers, delivering a statement campaign that blended attacking flair with defensive steel.

“I’m ecstatic, I won’t lie to you. The girls really put on a bit of a show,” said Goodwin.

“What impressed me most is how a young group stepped up after we lost key players from last year.”

Saints were simply untouchable. Six matches, six wins and a staggering 35 goals scored with none conceded tells its own story. The goals flowed freely, including a 9-0 demolition of Curro Salt Rock and twin 7-0 routs of hosts St Dunstan’s and Hillcrest College Zimbabwe.

At the heart of the onslaught was red-hot star player Jemma Ferreira, who finished as the tournament’s top scorer with 19 goals, while the influential Natalia Jardim pulled the strings in midfield to earn player of the tournament honours.

Tashni Peter opened the scoring with a deflected shot before Ferreira fired two goals as Saints led 2-0 at half-time. Ferreira grabbed her hattrick with a penalty flick before Jardim sealed it with an amazing drag flick at the death.

Goodwin said the foundation of their success is a result of solid defending.

“You can’t concede if you want to win. Defence is everything, it’s the base. When your back door is shut, it gives you freedom to attack, and that’s exactly what we did,” he said.

Beyond the silverware, Goodwin said the triumph signals a culture of excellence taking firm root, highlighting the influence of senior stars like Ferreira and Jardim in inspiring the next generation, with youngsters such as Ayanda Tsoka rising to the occasion.

“These players set the standard. They drive the culture and give the juniors something to aspire to,” he added.

Up next for Saints is an inter-catholic tournament in May.
