Help learner go to nationals

He is appealing for help to cover his accommodation, flights and tracksuits costs.

Laerskool Brentwoodpark learner Zandreh van der Merwe is appealing for help to travel to East London to represent Gauteng at the South African Schools Cross-Country Championships on October 1.

The 10-year-old Grade Four learner received his Gauteng colours at the provincial championships held at the Kagiso Sports Complex in Krugersdorp on September 3.

Zandreh van der Merwe earned his Ekurhuleni colours this year.

According to his mom, Shelley Ravenscroft, Zandreh who is also a rugby sevens player, is appealing for help to cover his accommodation, flights and tracksuits costs.

“We couldn’t be prouder of him. Zandreh is a model student. He has the most beautiful personality. I believe God has given him this raw talent for running and my wish is that he can take it further,” Shelley said.

Zandreh is an all-rounder athlete with an excellent academic record. According to Ravenscroft, he has received his academic badges for the past three years.

He also earned his Ekurhuleni colours earlier this year after dominating the 1 200m track event at the District Six Championships.
