Track incident spoils Tromp’s European bow

"If it were not for the breakdown, he would have earned between fourth and fifth."

Go-kart racer Tjaden Tromp finished 13th at the Tillotson T4 Nations Cup in Spain on October 2.

His father Gerrit explained that the 12-year old could have finished among the top five if it wasn’t for a breakdown on the final day and a blister on his right toe.

“He was running in position four yesterday (October 2) for two laps and suffered a breakdown due to a track incident.

“The incident caused him to start from the back in the rest of the heats. He pushed hard and made it to the finish, crossing the line in 13th position.”

Trompie’s misfortune was made up by the country’s other drivers who displayed unity to finish as the competition’s strongest team.

“Out of 12 drivers, seven managed to finish the race and we got a podium place thanks to Durelle Goodman,” Gerrit added.

Goodman finished third in the T4 mini.
