The Northmead Bowling Club (NBC) has appointed Cedric Summersgill as the new bowling coach.
The Airfield resident comes with tons of experience both as a player and coach.
He started bowling in 2014 and has attended numerous coaching courses and workshops. He’s a Bowls South Africa (BSA) level three qualified coach.
“I began by directing my wife in blind bowling and found an instant passion to want to help her more. To do so I needed to study the game of bowls.”
The 68-year-old has already hit the ground running with a campaign to develop bowlers in and around Benoni.
He will work together with the club to offer beginners to experienced bowlers free coaching sessions.
“No matter what level of a bowler you may be, everyone needs coaching to iron out some bad habits.
“There are common bowling errors I have noticed where people don’t follow through and they often don’t stay down when bowling. With the help of coaching these errors can be addressed and corrected.”
Cedric said he enjoys the social element of lawn bowls but his passion lies in helping people improve their game.
He’s implemented effective weekly coaching and development sessions at the club which he said require focus and accuracy as the circuit is challenging.
“The vision of NBC is to encourage new bowlers to participate in the sport and what better way to enter the game than with a qualified coach.
“We and Cedric are excited to be a part of growing the bowling landscape in South Africa through effective coaching and skills development,” said the club’s Chantal Henn.
Coaching commences every Wednesday at 15:00.
