The most gripping internship

I have watched only a handful of movies compared to your ordinary couch potato, but after watching The Internship, I long for the time to seek out equally brilliant films.

The Internship is directed by Shawn Levy, written by Vince Vaughn and Jared Stern, and produced by Vaughn and Levy.

What I thought would be another mundane comedy (I am not the biggest fan of comedies) almost compelled me to apply for a job at Google.

The movies begins with two salesmen, Billy McMahon (Vince Vaughn) and Nick Campbell (Owen Wilson), who have just been made redundant from their positions as watch salesmen.

Following the retrenchment, Campbell lands himself a job as a bed salesman, but McMahon does not give up on bigger hopes and dreams for himself and his partner.

McMahon convinces Campbell they are capable of greater success and the duo finally decides on an ambitious career move – applying as interns at Google.

Google is offering a week long internship where the winning team will land jobs at the prestigious company.

With no experience for the position, and a sense of desperation and anxiety, the pair does enough to convince their prospective employer to give them a shot at the internship.

The online interview with Google staff and the events leading to the end of the movie make for hilarious and motivational viewing, as the two misfits are short-listed for a week long internship at Google.

McMahon, Campbell and three other misfits find themselves having to work together after not being snatched up by any of the other teams.

The resistance and diversity in the five person group eventually bring the team together and result in great viewing to the very end.

The transformation in the group, the hilarious situations presented by five completely different individuals working together and a sense of anything being possible with a bit of determination make this movie a must-see.

The movie is currently showing at Ster Kinekor, Northmead Square.
