Eustice selected for 2014 Hockey World Cup

It is official.

Former Benoni Northerns junior hockey player Jethro Eustice (24) will be flying the flag for South Africa at the 2014 Hockey World Cup.

The announcement of the final team was made by men’s national hockey coach Fabian Gregory, on Friday, May 9, following an intensive week at the final selection training camp, at St Alban’s College, in Pretoria.

The tournament will be played at The Hague, from Saturday, May 31, to Sunday, June 15.

Eustice was selected as one of the team’s defenders for the tournament, while Rhett Halkett, who played at Benoni Northerns at a young age, before moving to Cape Town, was also included in the 18-man squad.

Eustice told the City Times that the realisation that he had been selected for the team took some time to sink in.

“I feel so honoured and privileged to be able to represent my country at the World Cup,” he said.
