Fever Dogs have Oppi fever
Two years ago, Fever Dogs founder Ross van den Heever placed an advertisement on Gumtree, looking for band members and, this year, the band will be playing at Oppikoppi.
Jean-Paul (JP) Maré (bass guitarist), Dean Barreto (lead guitarist), Van den Heever (rhythm guitarist and lead vocals) and Greg Coles (drummer) are excited to be a part of this year’s Oppikoppi festival taking place in August.
“We feel that it is a big achievement and we are completely ready for it,” said Coles.
This is their first time playing as a band at the festival, in Limpopo.
Although three of the four members live in Primrose, Bramley and Fourways, JP, who lives in Cloverdene, is the Benoni link with the band.
But, the rest of the group are no strangers to the Benoni area.
“We have played at Grid and Grill and Benrock Fest, which is a local up-and-coming festival put on by local Benoni bands,” Coles explained.
The band members are influenced by various styles and genres, but produce predominantly rock, which is influenced by bands like Alice in Chains and Soundgarden.
And they promise to showcase their talents at the festival.
“People can look out for four handsome dudes, two of whom will be shirtless, rocking hard riffs and powerful drum grooves over our catchy vocal lines.” said Coles.
“Look out for us on Sunday, at 1pm, you won’t miss the huge beards on stage and, if you don’t see us, you will definitely hear us.”
Oppikoppi is not the only exciting thing happening in their lives; they will shortly release their debut album, “Devil Music”, on which they have been working since early 2015.
“We will, hopefully, be releasing it sometime in September,” said Coles.
“We are trying to build the Fever Dogs brand by hosting our own events and promoting our own gigs.”
