Have you smelt an unusual odour in Benoni recently?

A smell in Benoni has left ward councillors Kabelo Mahonko and Jacques Meiring, along with relevant departments, in search of what could be causing it.

“We met on Monday (December 18) morning to visit the pump stations,” said Ward 24 Clr Mahonko.
“But we could not trace the smell.”
According to Mahonko, the areas which have been reported to have a manure-like smell in the air are Rynfield, Morehill and Crystal Park.
The City Times has seen numerous complaints on social media from residents in other Benoni suburbs.
Ward 27 Clr, Jacques Meiring, said the magnitude of the issue has been brewing over the past two weeks.
“This issue has my full attention and that of all the departments,” Meiring said.
According to Meiring, several plots and businesses will be visited for further investigation.
Mahonko said it seems the wind is blowing the smell to certain parts of the area.
Both councillors request residents to let them know if they have an idea where the smell is coming from.
