Local rapper wants to motivate others

He has been performing since 2010 and his music is finally playing on 90.8 Ukhosi FM.

Young Daveyton rapper Mduduzi Gift Mahlangu, known as Mjay Da Spoilt Brat, is set to release his debut extended play (EP), King Kong, on June 9.

He has been performing since 2010 and his music is finally playing on 90.8 Ukhosi FM.

The winner of the best downloads category in the Streets Are Fed Up Awards 2015 said that with the EP, he aims to motivate other young people to dream beyond their situation.

“King Kong is about me finally breaking into the music industry and the struggles I’ve come across during the journey.

Specialising in the genre of hip-hop, Mjay ventured into a solo career with songs like ShowTime, MamaSita, Freshest Kids, Dreams and Nightmares, Can I Live, Nothing Was The Same and Ice Cream Conversation.

The 24-year-old has been associated with various local DJs and dreams of collaborating with many more artists, including AKA and J Cole.

He said the highlight of his career was when he was one of the opening acts to Trey Songz at the Ticketpro Dome in August 2015.

“Standing in front of that crowd was the most incredible feeling I’ve ever had.”
