Farrarmere Gardens elderly get special treat
Cake, entertainment and fellowship were some of the highlights for Farrarmere Gardens residents on Mandela Day.
Residents of Farrarmere Gardens were treated to a day of snacks, beverages, blankets and entertainment at the Farrarmere Community Hall on July 18.
The event, which was hosted by the local Democratic Alliance (DA), coincided with the centenary celebrations of Mandela Day.
Residents were abuzz and delighted at the spoils they had received.
For some, this was the first treat of any kind they experienced despite living in the area for many years.
“I like it because it is an outing for us and it’s very nice to be speaking to everyone at one event,” said Maria Horn who has been a resident for 27 years.
Ninety-six-year-old resident Engelina Chune has been living in Farrarmere Gardens since 1995 and was also present at the event and was delighted to be part of the celebrations.
The residents also mentioned that they were celebrating and honouring the late Nelson Mandela and took a moment to express their gratitude for the global icon.
