13 injured in collision

Thirteen people were injured in a taxi collision on Tuesday morning at the busy intersection of Argyle and Umgeni Road.

ANOTHER taxi accident left more than a dozen commuters seriously injured in Morningside on Tuesday morning, 27 August.

Rescue Care paramedics arrived at the scene of the serious collision at the busy Umgeni Road and Argyle Road intersection just after 5am.

“We found total carnage. A taxi had collided with a trailer that was being towed by a vehicle. This caused the taxi to overturn, ejecting most of the passengers onto the road,” said Garrith Jamieson, operations director of Rescue Care.

The injured commuters were found strewn around the wrecked vehicles. “More resources were called in to assist with the multiple casualty scene. Two patients had sustained very serious injuries and Advanced Life Support intervention was needed to assist in stabilizing them on the scene,” added Jamieson.

Once all the injured were stabilized they were taken to various Durban hospitals for further care.It is unclear what caused the collision but SAPS will be investigating further.

Traffic was severely affected as Umgeni Road was closed at Argyle Road going into Durban central.
