GLENWOOD’S finest voice, aka ‘Gazu in the Gantry,’ is the most recognisable voice around schoolboy sport at Glenwood High School.
Emihle Sbahle Gazu, a Grade 12 learner, oozes passion. He is an inspiring radio and sports broadcaster. Although his passion emerged only in 2025, he is well on his way to greatness and possesses a voice even bolder.
He said he is inspired by legendary commentators like Peter Drury, Robert Marawa, Felix Hlophe, and Mitch Matyana.
“My vision is to bring poetic, passionate, and unforgettable commentary to South African schoolboy rugby,” Gazu said.
What started as a joke, creating a match-day intro for a Life Sciences exam, soon became something much bigger after encouragement from two of his teachers, who recognised his natural talent and urged him to pursue it.
A former learner of Durban Preparatory High School, Emihle has already worked with SuperSport Schools by commentating at the Sharks Rugby Trials Day and has even featured on Gagasi FM.
Looking ahead, Emihle has solid plans. “I would like to study Nuclear Medicine while continuing to grow my broadcasting journey through radio and sports commentary, including campus radio and future work with SuperSport Schools.”
For this fresh voice, the future is bright, and the mic is waiting.

TOP chess player, Saien Naidu, is only 13, but his game has exceeded his age. He is the top Board1 player at school.
The eighth grader at St Henry’s Marist College is in Sri Lanka, where he is representing SA in the Commonwealth Chess Championship 2026.
This follows his achievement of 10th place in the local Junior Chess Championships, among 77 tough rivals.
Saien began his professional chess game in 2022, not to ignore that his mother introduced him to the game at the age of four. He has never looked back, as he sees a bright future in the sport.
In December 2025 Saien was selected for the U14 KZN Team to compete at the Mzansi Interprovincial Youth Chess Tournament.
“I aspire to be one of the grand masters one day, a world champ,” he chuckled.
Among a string of accolades, Naidu was a force to be reckoned with at the KZN Chess Open Junior Tournament in 2022, and at the SA Junior Closed (U14 Boys) in May 2026 at the SA FIDE Chess Tournament.
“Playing chess has impacted my life in a significant way. It taught me to be confident, and most importantly, it gave me an experience of being successful in a sport,” he said.
As if the chessboard was not enough, Saien holds a black belt in karate. He also has a remarkable signature in tennis, soccer, and colourful academic achievements.

SEVENTEEN-YEAR-OLD Clifton College water polo player Taylor Seiler has achieved a remarkable milestone in South African schoolboy sport after earning selection for both the SA Men’s Senior Water Polo team and the SA Men’s U18 side in the same season.
Known for his calm presence in the pool and his tactical understanding of the game, Seiler has consistently impressed coaches and selectors with performances that belie his age.
“His inclusion in the senior national team is particularly significant, placing him alongside some of the country’s top water polo players while still completing his school career,” said Clifton’s Director of Water Polo, Pierre le Roux.
Le Roux, the most capped Springbok water polo player in history, paid tribute to Taylor’s parents, Richard and Tonya.
“Their support has played a central role throughout his journey,” he said.
Adding to the family’s proud sporting story is younger brother Carter, who is already rising through the ranks and showing promising talent in the pool. It was a triple celebration for the Seilers when Carter was selected into the SA Boys’ U16 Team.
“Achievements of this nature – we have had 11 SA selections this season – serve as an inspiration to junior players working to reach the highest levels of the sport,” said Le Roux.

ORIENT Islamic School’s Yusra Oosthuizen was recently named Player of the Tournament at an Albaraka AMS KZN Netball Event.
The Grade Seven learner, representing the U15 team, was bestowed this honour after delivering an outstanding performance throughout the competition.
Yusra described her reaction to the achievement as “overjoyed and proud,” adding that she believed in her ability to reach her goals. She credited her success to the strong support of her family, friends, teammates, and her own dedication to improving her skills.
Playing in the Goal Attack (GA) position, Oosthuizen explained her dynamic playing style, “I love scoring. I like to be all over the place, running to get the ball. I don’t like staying in one position.”
Her standout moment came in the final, where her team secured a 12–0 victory, with Yusra contributing approximately nine goals.
Preparation for major tournaments includes consistent training at school and at home with her sister. She emphasised her discipline, noting that she never misses training sessions.
She also acknowledged the importance of the school’s wider support system, including the backing of her school’s official sponsor and healthcare partner, Ahmed Al Kadi Hospital, whose involvement has helped ensure player well-being and access to on-site medical support during training, giving all players peace of mind.
Yusra also participates in volleyball, swimming, and soccer, and enjoys expressing her creativity through art. Balancing academics and sport can be demanding, she said, but organisation helps her manage both effectively.
