Durban Preparatory High School celebrates a huge achievement after Grade Three learner James Sayer had an incredible run on the squash court recently. Sayer secured first place in the KZN Junior Open (U11). He was also the winner in the Pre-ranking Start of Season Tournament. He went on to sit steady in first place in the PMB Open, undefeated, without dropping a game.
Competing against boys up to two years older, James has shown remarkable skill, composure, and determination. “We are incredibly proud of this rising star and can’t wait to see what’s next,” shared DPHS.

Just a few days ahead of his 12th birthday on March 22, Penzance Primary School cricketer Jodi Jooste has hit a major milestone in his young career on the field.
Jooste, along with his Penzance 13B teammates, scored a significant win over Northlands 13B. The Grade Six learner was among the key players that led the school to victory as he took five wickets for 18 runs.
“This was the second time that I’ve taken five wickets to help secure a win,” said Jooste. “The first time was last year against Reddam House U11A. I got five wickets, 14 runs in two overs.”
The young sportsman, who also plays soccer, rugby, hockey, athletics and cricket, said at that moment it felt unreal.
“I was totally ecstatic,” said Jooste. “I was bowling into the strong wind, which was challenging at times but I pushed through and the rewards were great.” On Friday he was recognised by the school for his bowling abilities.

Multi-talented does not begin to describe Glenmore Primary School athlete, Grade Five learner Luphawu Tekana.
He represents his school in rugby, soccer, shot put and athletics. “I love playing sports, it keeps me fit and in shape,” said a smiling Luphawu.
Luphawu’s love of sports has developed over the years at Glenmore Primary School where he has earned recognition for his abilities and skills. “I did well at interschool competitions and was selected for trials,” said Luphawu.
The skills that he has learnt in sport, Luphawu has transferred them to his school. Hi passion for learning and education drives him to excel both on and off the field.
“I really love school and playing sports. I love learning new stuff and pushing myself to succeed. My teachers help a lot, which is also good,” said Luphawu who is looking forward to a promising academic year.
To his younger peers who are considering following in his footsteps, Luphawu said they must pick sport that they love. “As long as you are not forced to do, pick something that you are good at and that you will like,” he added.

'Just keep swimming, until you get there'

Described as humble and talented, Mia Parsons is swimming her way to the top. Having participated for the first time in this year’s Midmar Mile Open Water Swim, she completed the event in an impressive time of one hour and six minutes.
The Grade Six learner at Berea Primary School has been navigating the waters since she was four. She only started competing when she was in Grade Three.
Her highlight has also been participating in the annual Durban and District Swimming Gala, in 2025 and 2026. She and her school team finished third last year.
On the Midmar Mile, Parsons excitedly shared, “I loved the whole experience. The waves crushing against my body was a beautiful feeling. I am proud to have gone the whole distance and completed the race.”
She and her school team have been smashing awards, and she aims to keep improving her score with each swimming event, either as an individual or as a team.
The future? “I would like to pursue swimming as a career, until I reach the Olympics.”
She shares wisdom with the younger, and aspiring swimmers. “Stay in the game, don’t worry so much about winning. Just keep on swimming, and eventually you will get there.”

Navya Achary, a Grade Seven learner at Eden College, achieved Gold at the American Performance Awards for ballet and has received a partial scholarship to attend the American Academy of Ballet Summer School programme in New York in July.
Navya has been dancing since the age of four and has received a few double distinctions for ballet over the years. She was also awarded the Dance trophy last year and achieved a silver badge for Dance.

The Grade 11 learner has been selected to join the team that will represent South Africa in the final round of the competition in Uzbekistan during the July holidays.
The school is incredibly proud of Aayur and wishes him everything of the best as he prepares for this exciting opportunity.

Neo Abrahams, a Grade 11 learner at St Henry’s Marist College, competed in the KZN Athletics Championships at the Kings Park Stadium recently.
Even though they had to perform in gale force winds and heavy overcast conditions on the weekend, his final results were nothing short of amazing. He secured second place in the U18 200m with a time of 22.63s, earning him a silver medal.
And that was not enough, he went on to smash the 400m, and walked away with a gold medal, with his personal best of 50.52sec.
Neo was selected to represent KZN in both the Athletics SA National Championship in Germiston, Johannesburg, this weekend, as well as the SA High Schools National Championships in Rustenburg, North West Province, in April.
He also received his 2026 Provincial Colours last weekend.

IT’S a track triumph for Sky-Shae Anderson who earned a podium finish recently. Durban Girls’ College celebrates the incredible performance she delivered at the KZN Athletics Championships.
Sky-Shae, a Grade Nine sprinter, secured silver in the U16 100m and Bronze in the 200m. She demonstrated remarkable resilience and speed, proving that Sky-Shae remains one of the fastest U15 female sprinters in the province.
Following these hard-earned results, she has been selected to represent KZN at the SA Schools National Championships in Rustenburg from April 8-11. “We are incredibly proud of her achievements and wish her the very best of luck at Nationals,” DGC shared.
