DSW celebrates National Clean-Up Month

DSW is encouraging the community to participate in their educational and clean up programmes for a clean and healthy city.

THE eThekwini Municipality’s DSW – Cleansing and Solid Waste Unit has once again embarked on a campaign aimed at creating awareness and educating the public on proper waste management practices.

DSW’s history in participating in the SA National Clean Up Month dates back to 1999 when this campaign was launched for the first time by the Department of Environmental Affairs. DSW has made the campaign successful in the past 14 years because of its strategy that involved community projects, eradicating illegal dumps and developing sustainable programmes.

The programme involves clean-up campaigns in various areas, educational workshops at schools, presentationsand awareness campaigns at shopping centres. To ensure sustainability DSW has incorporated various role players such as Enviro- forums, schools, businesses and communities.

For further information contact the DSW’s Education office at 031 303 1665. You will then be referred to your local Education Officer for advice.
