Rope of Hope fever at charity run

Create your own Rope of Hope and be a part of the Sunflower Fund's fun run/walk

LOCAL schools and businesses are encouraged to create their own Rope of Hope and to bring it to the Amphitheatre in front of Suncoast at 8.30am on 15 September to be joined with other Ropes of Hope.

The ‘Rope of Hope’ is made up of Sunflower bandanas tied together.

Suncoast is supporting Vukukhanye, a registered South African benefit and non-profit organisation operating in Chesterville. This community-based organization has organised for 16 children from the area to be part of the fun event on 15 September. Under the supervision of their parents and social workers the children will be holding the ‘Rope of Hope’ and cheering the runners, walkers and strollers taking part in the 5km fun run.

After the event the regional ‘Rope of Hope’ will be donated to a sewing group in the Chesterville area to use the bandanas to create items such as peg holders, ironing board covers, cushions, shopping bags, pillow cases and children’s skirts which will be sold to generate income for the aged in this area.

The run/walk starts at the Amphitheatre and goes along the boardwalk to the Durban Spa Vacation Resort and back. Pre-registration is recommended. The entry fee is R50 and includes a Sunflower Bandana.

Registration takes place at Pick n Pay Hyper in Durban North on Saturday, 14 September between 10am to 5pm and at Suncoast outside the SunZone on the Boardwalk on Saturday, 14 September from 1pm to 3pm and at the SunZone on the morning of the race, Sunday, 15 September, from 7.30am to 9am.

Prize-giving will take place after the race and five substantial lucky draw prizes will be awarded. People of all ages and fitness levels are encouraged to participate as all money raised will be used to help children and young adults diagnosed with leukemia.

The Northlands Girls’ High Djembe Fusion Group as well as the Prep Gum Boot Dancers will be performing while Dance Direction International will demonstrate some high energy routines.
